Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the life, employment status and retirement support needs of retired athletes with disabilities.
Method: A total of 271 samples were selected using the stratified radio sampling method based on the athlete registration status of the Korean Physical Education Association. The data of retired disabled athletes were collected using snowball extraction method through the first study participants.
Results: First, most of the disabled retirees lived in the metropolitan area, and the average monthly income was less than 2 million won. Second, regarding occupation decision priorities for retired athletes with disabilities, it was in the order of compensation (wage), employment stability, working conditions, and development potential of 7.7%. Supporting beneficiaries were in the order of overall, more than 10 years of player experience, more than 5 years of player experience, members of national team and members of corporate team.
Conclusion: The findings of this study are meaningful to provide basic data for life, employment and retirement support for retired athletes with disabilities.
