The efforts to govern AI technologies in the United States are surveyed from the three branches of the American Federal Government. We find that there are distinct differences of opinion between these branches but that they are all keenly interested in maintaining US leadership and technical dominance in the area of AI technologies. At the State level, California is seen to be a leader in passing laws that seek to govern AI technologies. The efforts of US academics and corporations to find ways to regulate AI are also surveyed and we find that a vigorous amount of activity can be found in these communities that can help find new ways to govern AI technologies and applications.
