Since the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) started in 2013, the scale of the project has expanded rapidly, and it has become a large-scale project involving more than 100 countries around the world. Many countries welcomed the BRI at the project planning stage, but many problems have been identified concerns about the BRI have increased. This study reviewed the business scope and principles of the BRI. It also examined the participating countries, the variability of development routes and symbolism of the project. Related to the difficulties of the BRI, it reviewed concerns of many countries due to China's growing influence, its border region development, debtbook diplomacy and energy security issues. It also classified difficulties of the BRI and presented its characteristics at the time of project activation. Unlike previous studies, this study attempted to examine China’s perspectives regarding difficulties of the BRI and also present the historical background of the project.
