Visual semiotics, as an important method for the interpretation of static visual images in Western art history, is also of great significance for the study of animated film art with dynamic images as its core.Looking at the structure of virtual social forms in animated films, there is usually a certain social hierarchy.From the perspective of visual semiotics, the social phenomenon of hierarchical system is mainly reflected in the visual elements such as the color, shape and style of various items in animated films.Among them, the imagery presented by the costumes worn by the group characters is the most hierarchical social attribute.
This article was released in early 2019, and is based on the animated film "White Snake" produced by China"s Light Chaser Animation and Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. From the perspective of visual semiotics, through the triple-section film symbol analysis theory of the famous Italian symbolicist Umberto·Eco, in the study of "Elements, Signs and Seme" Under the method, combined with the social background of the Chinese Tang Dynasty, the social hierarchy analysis of the series of characters in the "White Snake: Origin" animated film was conducted. The conclusion of the article points out that on the one hand, the costume image as a visual symbol mainly reflects the hierarchical system of the virtual society in the film through the external elements and intrinsic meanings such as color, material, craft and value; on the other hand, it abides by certain social conventions and historical backgrounds. Apparel images are the basis for the formation of an excellent animated film. At the same time, the theory of triple-segment film symbol analysis has important practical significance for the study of animated films.
