주사전자현미경 수준에서 Leprieuria bacilla에 분해된목재분해 메카니즘에 관하여 논의하였다. Leprieuriabacilla에 의한 전형적인 목재부후는 세포벽의 모든 구성성분을 심하게 분해하였다. 목재의 분해는 세포내강에서시작하여 이차벽의 S2층으로 향하였으며, S2층내 균사를함유한 공동이 많이 발견되었다. 균사침입은 활엽수의 경우 도관에서, 침엽수의 경우 수지구에서 시작하였으며 세포외 효소를 이용하거나 균사의 물리적인 힘을 가하여벽공이나 세포벽을 뚫고 가도관/목섬유에서 인접 세포로침입하였다. 횡단면상에서 공동의 형성은 주로 가도관의S2층의 미세섬유의 방향에 따라 나선형의 침식을 나타냈다.
