서해안 안강망의 끝자루 망목크기에 따른 주요어종의 어획과 체포금지 어종의 혼획을 비교하기 위하여 끝자루 망목크기가 각각 다른 5종 (세망, 15mm, 25mm, 35mm, 45mm)의 시험어구를 제작한 후 충남 서천 연안에서 조업하는 상업선 (7.93톤)을 임차하여 시험조업을 실시하였다. 본 조사에서는 상업적으로 중요한 어종 중 멸치, 꽃새우, 꼴뚜기, 갑오징어, 꽃게가 다섯 종류의 시험어구 모두에서 우점하였다. 모든 시험어구에서 어획된 어획종은 꽃새우였으며, 끝자루 망목크기별 허용 어획종의 어획량은 세망에서 멸치, 15mm, 25mm, 35mm에서 꽃새우, 45mm에서 꼴뚜기의 어획이 가장 높았다. 각 어구별 혼획을 살펴보면, 세망에서 총 어획 2,171,844g 중에서 혼획 어획물은 623,376g (28.7%)를 차지하였고, 15mm에서 704,451g 중 11,932g (1.7%), 25mm에서 221,432g 중 3,616g (1.6%), 35mm에서 191,052g 중 9,276g (4.9%), 45mm에서 51,431g 중 2,724g (5.3%)으로서 세목망에서의 혼획이 가장 높았으며, 25mm 망목에서의 혼획이 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다.
