Knowledge of the concepts related to the postpositions andprepositions and their semantic network of distinct meaningsinvolves knowledge beyond mapping the Korean postpositionsonto the apparent Russian equivalent. The intention of this studyis to provide a semantic description of the Korean postpositionswithin a cognitive framework, for the purpose of understanding ofknowledge of the multiple meanings of the Korean postpositions. The complexity of the adverbial case marker meaning is notinitially apparent to learners of Korean since ‘-ey’ and ‘-ese’ to acertain degree resemble Russian prepositions in form, that is, ‘в’,‘на’, ‘из’ and ‘с’, can be used with the Russian cases, and inEnglish, ‘in’, ‘at’, ‘on’, ‘to’, and ‘from’ etc. However, usingKorean postpositions appropriately is much more complicated thanit seems. Even prepositions in Russian have multiple meaningswhich do not entirely equate to the most similar prepositions inthe other languages. Problems arise when learners of Koreanassume an equivalency for both meaning and usage and bridge thegap in learning Korean that would be appropriate in similarprepositions in Russian. Thus, in this study, I have focuses asfollow: First, the scope of investigation is limited to the spatialand temporal relations: spatial-dimensional terms and temporal dimensional terms, all of which semantically extend into thecognitive domain. Second, the spatial and temporal usage ofKorean postpositions and Russian prepositions are compared toreveal similarities and differences between the spatial domain andthe temporal domain by the across-linguistic point of view, andfinally, through the results investigated in this study, show apedagogical recommendation for learners of Russian.
