This paper will take the basic Korean language learning theories and analyze Korean language learning applications that are currently being utilized on smart devices. This analysis has the goal of attaining implications on learning application content that will be utilized in Korean language education. Mobile smart devices with its internet capabilities has brought significant change to the educational paradigm. Many of the Korean language learners who are in their 20s to 30s are a part of a ‘Digital Generation’. Taking this into consideration to satisfy the demand of the generation, the development of mobile content is urgent. This paper, before discussing the development of Korean language applications, argues that there is a need for move focus from technological development to strengthening the educational aspect of the current language learning mobile applications. The current Korean language learning applications were thoroughly analyzed along the pre-set of “audience and learning goals”, “learning content and activity”, “learner participation and diversity”, “learner evaluation” and “other.” According to the results of the analysis we found that there was an absence of interaction, lack of providing support and evaluation to the learners, and a lack of providing feedback on the learners development and proficiency. We found that there will be an increase need for Korean language education professionals to actively participate in the development of mobile language applications. In conclusion, in collaboration of application developers and language education professionals Korean language learning applications should be developed encompassing development in the technological and educational aspect.
