This study aims to develop an informative notation system of Korean grammatical items that could overcome the shortcomings of the existing ones employed by Korean reference materials, in particular, Korean language textbooks. The existing notation systems not only use symbols in an inconsistent manner, which lead to ambiguities, but also fail to capture the allomorphic conditions of many grammatical items in a unified way to make them more learnable. Using qualitative as well as quantitative methods, this study has produced a notation system that presents two main allomorphic conditions of many grammatical items in such a way that facilitates their learning. The first invention is using parentheses with all the grammatical items beginning with '+a/eo' as shown in '+(a/eo)seo' and '+(a/eo) juseyo' to show that all of them are subject to the same phonologically conditioned allomorphy. The second one is using braces with all the grammatical items of which the first allomorph is used after a consonant and the second one after a vowel, as shown in '+{eun/neun}', '+{eul/l}laeyo'. Although these notational changes may appear to be minor, they lead to a highly informative presentation of grammatical items, thus making them far more learnable. Furthermore, these changes also have significant implications for the issues of learning order or presentation sequence of grammatical items in general.
