Nowadays the evaluating systems for language learner’s specific competence have been changing from psychometric to contextual paradigm. Hence a writing ability test for KAP should consider the ecological context of the academic discourse. This paper presents the process of the developing the tasks of Korean writing proficiency test for academic purpose. The purpose of this study is to suggest a useful sample of the tasks which can properly evaluate the academic․cognitive competence of the KAP learners. These academic writing tasks were generally composed by 3 parts; summarizing a reading texts, outlining a plan, composing a report. Through several pre-tests, 1) the question for the controlling the different background knowledge was added; 2) the task of the summarizing a reading texts was simplified; 3) the task for outlining a plan was made easier; 4) the task of making foot note was added. Total 53 under graduate students performed these tasks. And 9 raters gave the analytic scores. This results were compared with the holistic scoring result by the instructors who had offered the writing samples to this study. (Hanyang University)
