The 1990's economic crisis in Korea has caused the financial independence of public theaters to be more important. The Korean government has required that they improve their income flow. The representative public theaters such as The National Theater, The Sejong Center and The Seoul Arts Center have followed what the authorities want. “Big Three” have tried to increase their earned incomes by the rent of their venues, parking fees and so on. The rent, however, has made many troubles. One hand, it has not-for-profit arts companies be decreased their opportunities to stage the venues by the expensive rent. The other hand, commercial arts companies such as musical productions have to pay extra charges with the rent for the venues. Recently, arts organizations and newspapers requires “Big Three” to change this unfair things. Public theaters were established by the government in order to present not only diverse performances and experiences for audience, but also opportunities staged by arts organizations. Therefore, “Big Three” have to develop the existing managing system to increase the box office of their performances instead of increasing the rent, parking fee and so forth. I make one suggestion to the public theaters including “Big Three” introduce subscriptions(or season tickets) in order to acquire more stable revenues and attendants. Almost arts organizations in the U.S and the U.K get a lot of earned incomes from them. Therefore, I look into them of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts because it is a only public theater established by the U.S federal government. The season tickets are already introduced the domestic market in the performing arts but LG Arts Center only sell them every year regularly. It is impossible that the public theaters sell them because of very late confirmation of the schedule of their season programming. Although subscriptions are very useful resource of the box office, many endeavors and expenses are not needed. Only it is needed the will of artistic directors and the early confirmation of schedule of their season programming. For instance, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra has begun to sell subscriptions right after appointment of new artistic director of Jeong, Myung-hun. Classical concert company, Creadia got surprising income from subscriptions, the name of “Package ticket”. Public theaters including “Big Three” do their best to improve the ticket sales regardless of requests of the authorities.
