Traditional Korean dance contains the emotional expression of life as one of the historical cultural heritages of Korean people. For this reason, teaching and learning traditional dance is not only mastering the techniques of dance of diverse genres but also understanding dance as the cultural heritage of the humankind and teaching and learning the spiritual world inherent in it. In this context, this study was intended to make an in-depth reexamination of the teaching method for teaching traditional Korean dance. For this purpose, it attempted to identify its present situation and the resultant problems and present its improvement scheme as one alternative. To resolve this purpose of study, this study selected five educators having more than five years of experiences in traditional Korean dance or persons completing the traditional Korean dance(monk dance, Salpurichum and Taepyongmu) designated as the important intangible cultural property. The students participating in this study had the experiences of more than five years in teaching traditional dance. Of them, ten students usually interested in traditional dance were selected. To collect data, this study employed in-depth interview, class observation, expert meeting and the like. For the purpose of data analysis, case analysis and categorical analysis were conducted. As a result, it was found that the method of teaching traditional Korean dance included direct teaching and indirect teaching. The problem of traditional Korean dance included the stereotyped teaching method, the lowered creative thinking promotion and reduced interests in dance and the like. As can be known through the findings of this study, the teaching-learning process of traditional Korean dance is composed of direct and indirect teaching methods but of the teaching of function-centered contents deeply rooted in the teaching and learning activities of traditional Korean dance. So this study attempted to present the class model as one alternative to apply it to a new class based on the reexamination of the teaching method of traditional Korean dance and the discovery of its problem.
