This paper sets out to develop the concept of an alternative cultural form through thecase of Busan International Improvisation Dance Festival(BIMPRO). Inspired by criticaldance studies, I explore the multi-faceted improvisational works and distinctive valueswhich are generated by a local dance community in Korea. I specially look at theengagement with local identity, performer relations, and audience engagement in theprocess of "making-doing" dance. Finally the paper concludes by exploring the potentialof the alternative cultural form which embraces limitations, diversities, and desires inmeaningful ways.
