The purpose of this study is to develop the scale that objectively measures Korean dancers' Shinmyeong State, and to confirm the scale's validity. 30 preliminary question items were generated, based on the existing literatures (Baek, Yu, 2011; Han, 2007; Kim, 2003; Oh, 1994) and the item validity checked by experts. The item analysis and the explanatory factor analysis were conducted for the survey directed toward 365 Korean dancers, and 4 factors and 19 items (5 for pleasure of senses, 5 for harmony, 5 for solution transcendence, and 4 for immersion) were extracted through the analysis. Then, the confirmatory factor analysis was conducted for 627 dancers. As a result, the four-factor nineteen-item structure was confirmed to be valid. Next, the structural invariance was confirmed, based on the multi-group confirmatory factor analysis and the measurement invariance test (configural invariance, metric invariance, and scalar invariance), and based on the results we found that the scale can be used across dancer group of various expertise/age level (high school dancers, college-level dancers and professional dancers). Then, the latent mean differences among the dancer groups and their effect sizes were calculated. If compared with the high school dancers as the norm, the college-level dancers showed higher latent means in all of the four factors (pleasure of senses, harmony, solution transcendence, and immersion) composing the Shinmyung state. Finally, the implications of our findings were discussed in the context of the previous research findings.
