This research aims to explore how contemporary European dance shows new aesthetic concepts and expressive forms in the 21st century. For this, I focus on the absence of movements, performance of trivialism, contingency of happening, minimalism, theatricality of Tanztheater, over-appearance and existentialism of nudity, and the convergence of different arts. Today contemporary European dance has transcended the boundary of arts, and featured the encounter, convergence and acceptance of various cultures and arts. These features of contemporary European dance have often challenged audiences' expectation. Can the new aesthetic concepts and forms which contemporary arts show, be placed under the category of dance? Do the encounter and convergence of different arts suggest the new inter-face of the choreographic arts while contemporary dance is gradually changing creative process?Since the Nouvelle Danse in the 1980s, there have been choreographic reforms. They are the cognition change and the new concepts of the body, which focus on body and surroundings, body and mind or emotion, rather than the forms of complicated, formal and standardized composition. It may be somewhat early to give a specific definition or title to this trend. Since the 1990s, however, there has been a growing trend of less or almost not dancing, which is classified as 'non-danse'. One of the main young choreographers associated with the non-danse movement is Jérôme Bel. It is the mode and major feature of the artistic expression in the 21st century that break the frame of the artistic categories and transcend its boundaries. Contemporary European dance cannot be an exception. The change, chaos and acceptance of the choreographic modes in contemporary dance include the phenomena of de-coding and deterritorialization observed. This research investigates the aesthetic change and expressive forms of contemporary European dance.
