Video dance is a genre made for the camera where movement is the primary expressive element in the work, rather than dialogue or music to be viewed on video or on a film screen. Dance is an art existing in 3 dimensional space of a stage area. Film is 2 dimensional art. The camera is unable to convey the depth of stage space. The choreography has to be shaped for the camera. Video dance has to be created with cinematic language. In order to create a Video dance, a storyboard is needed to plan to shoot a dance piece. Camera position, camera size, camera movement need to be decided. The study is focused on the relationship between camera and dance in the video dance work "La Chambre" created by French choreographer/director, Obadia/Bouvier. The relationship between camera and dance is established. Sometimes dance movements initiate the camera, sometimes the camera pushes the dance. Camera movements draw the attention of audience and invite them to come into the imaginary world on the screen. When the camera moves with dance movement, it multiplies movement and creates synergy. It determines the entrance and exit of dancers and depicts the relationship between dancers. Camera movements and camera angles create the direction on the screen either diagonally in the beginning or vertically at the end of the work which intensifies the dramatic value. Putting together different sizes and angles creates rhythm. In "La Chambre" when screen is flat 2-D, it is like a painting, in 3-D, sculpture and when the camera moves it feels like dance.
