This study was performed to investigate the current status of the asbestos containing products(ACP) such as asbestos cement products, asbestos friction materials, asbestos joint sheets, asbestos textile products, and other asbestos-containing products from May 2 to July 30, 2007 in Korea. The information of ACPs was obtained through the written questionnaires from 16 companies of all 27 that produce those. The production amounts of the asbestos containing gasket were 70 ton in 2004, 90 ton in 2005, and 55 ton in 2006 in 4 companies and the that of asbestos friction materials were 435.5 ton in 2004, 540.4 ton in 2005, and 454.3 ton in 2006 in 10 companies. The type and number of ACPs were asbestos cement and 19 products in 2 companies, asbestos friction materials and 47 in 18, asbestos joint sheets and 12 in 4, asbestos textile products and 18 in 3, and other asebstos products and 6 in 5, respectively. The database of ACPs were constructed including the products name, identification number, name of compnay, production year, composition, asbestos content(%), usage, specification, picture. The database will be efficiently used to identify the ACPs and to avoid the asbestos exposure in the workers and general population.
