Growth analysis was conducted with three different growth types of sesame to compare the growth characteristics among types and to obtain the basic information for breeding high yielding sesame. Different growth types showed different rate of increase in plant height. Determinate growth type showed parabolic growth curve in plant height during whole growth period and its increasing rate decreased progressively since 42~49 days after sowing (DAS). Indeterminate growth type showed sigmoid growth curve in plant height and the increasing rate of plant height became small since 77 DAS. The rates of increase in dry weight of the whole plant, leaves, stem and roots followed the similar trend to that of the plant height except that those weights of semi-determinate and indeterminate growth types decreased since 84 DAS. The five sesame varieties revealed almost similar changing pattern of Relative Growth Rate (RGR) based on the whole plant weight, which have three peaks in the period of 35~42 DAS, 56~64 DAS and 77~84 DAS, respectively. The specific leaf area (SLA) of 3 determinate and semi-determinate growth type varieties decreased continuously since the first peak during 28~35 DAS but those of 2 indeterminate growth type varieties showed two small peaks during 35~42 and 64~70 DAS. The changing aspects of unit leaf weight ratio (ULWR) were also the similar ones to those of net assimilation rate (NAR) with different growth type of fluctuation according to growth habit. In the changes of surplus weight, the determinate growth type sesame displayed mono-modal curve decreasing rapidly from 70 DAS, while the indeterminate growth type sesames exhibited bimodal curve with the first and second peaks during 56~64 DAS and 70~77 DAS, respectively
