Eight inbred lines of pepper (Capsicum annuum) were examined at ambient and high temperature conditions (25°C ± 3.1°C and 35°C ± 2.2°C in daytime, respectively) to select germplasms resistant to tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). Two inbred pepper lines (11VR35 and 11VR51) showed complete resistance against TSWV at 25°C, but the lines were highly susceptible to TSWV infection at 35°C. Also, infection rate of 11VR32, 11VR47 11VR53 and 11VR54 were 10.0-28.6% at 25°C,but infection rate of these germplasms at 35°C were 100% . Interestingly, 11VR36 and 11VR50 showed all resistance by inoculation at 25℃ and 35 ℃. Accordingly, TSWV resistant test was considered stable at high temperature (35°C). Two C. annuum lines (11PM25 and 11PM28) and three C. chinense lines (11FL34, 11FL38 and 11FL44) resistant to TSWV were obtained from resistance evaluation of 68 new pepper germplasms at 35°C. All plants did not produce distinct hypersensitive responses induced by Tsw gene at 35°C. Inbred lines of pepper selected in this study are useful for the breeding of TSWV resistance.
