The Korean native rice collection consists of landrace and weedy strains. The weedy strains are represented by two dis-tinctive populations, Share and red rice. The 242 representative accessions of Korean native rice collection were selected basedon the passport data. Share was evaluated as the primitive weedy type of cultivated rice in Korea, characterized by black glume,using the polymorphism of simple sequence repeats with 51 accessions including the 39 representative landraces and weedystrains, 8 Japanese accessions, and 5 Korea bred japonica and Tongil-type varieties. Most of the red rice accessions were includedor closer to the Korean landrace groups. Meanwhile, the Share population was grouped together with Japanese landraces, indi-cating the sharing of a comon ancestor. Some red rice accessions, one Share accesion, and two landraces with long grain wereShare accessions might be an ancestor form of Korean cultivated rice from the phylogenetic analysis in this experiment. Thisphylogenetic dendrogram evidence might provide the useful information for the genetic diversification of cultivated rice in Korea.
