Background: Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous disease. Therapeutic modalities should be chosen based on theidentified sub-types and clinical features in each patient. Vascular lasers, including intense pulsed light (IPL), arereportedly safe and effective in treating erythematotelangiectaticrosacea (ETR). Objective: In this study, we assess thecomparative efficacy of IPL related to several factorsincluding clinical severity and the age of patients with ETR. Methods: Patients with ETR were classified into two groupsaccording to the National Rosacea Society Severity Guideline. Severity score and erythema index (EI) were measuredusing a clinical scorecard and mexameter. For additionalevaluation of therapeutic efficacy, investigator and patientglobal assessments (IGA, PGA) were checked. Efficacy of IPLwas analyzed according to severity score, EI, IGA, and PGArelated to sex, age, lactic acid stinging test, and severity. Results: Analyses of the efficacy of IPL according to severityscore, EI, IGA, and PGA based on sex, age, lactic acidstinging test, and severity revealed significant differenceswith age and severity only. Conclusion: This study supportsthe efficacy of IPL treatment for patients with ETR. IPL may bemore effective in patients with more severe ETR and inyounger patients with ETR.
