The Burkholderia genus consists of over 40Gram-negative, β-proteobacteria species that occupy remarkablydiverse ecological niches. This genus contains species pathogenicto human, animals, and plants, as well as species involved inpromoting plant growth and biodegradation of pollutants.This largely explained by the extraordinary versatilityof Burkholderia, as reflected by the remarkable diversityof extracellular products released by these bacteria. Weexhaustively surveyed the extracellular enzymes, siderophores,by the members of this very diverse genus. Available informationon regulation, especially quorum sensing mechanisms, andsecretion is highlighted.
