A mathematical model has ben proposed for thebatch culture of Agaricus blazei with mixed carbon sources ofof A. blazei was divided into three parts: cel growth,exopolysaccharides (EPS) production, and another EPSproduction pathway activated by dextrin hydrolysis. Eachpathway was described mathematically and incorporatedinto the mechanistic model structure. Batch cultures werecarried out with six diferent carbon source compositions.Although parameters were estimated by using the experimentaldata from the two extreme cases such as glucose onlyof glucose, cell mas, and EPS concentrations for al thesix diferent carbon source mixtures, showing a goodinterpolation capability. Of note, the lag in EPS productioncould be quite precisely predicted by assuming that theglucose-to-cell mas ratio was the governing factor for EPSproduction.
