Strain NR 15-1T isolated from traditional KoreanNuruk is described as a new species and named as Aspergilluscoreanus NR 15-1T sp. nov. Strain NR 15-1T grew rapidly toform yellow-green colonies whose surfaces were velvety onCzapek solution agar. Conidial heads were yellow to light andelliptical, whereas the conidiophore was colorless and typicallylong. In addition, vesicles were from flask-shaped to globose,and sterigmata are uniseriate. Conidia were spherical and deepyellow-green, and their surfaces were lightly roughened. TheG+C content of strain NR 15-1T was 51 mol% and strainNR 15-1T contained a dihydrogenated ubiquinone with Q9(94.9%) as a major quinone. The nucleotide sequences ofstrain NR 15-1T in the two Internal Transcribed Spacers(ITS 1 and 2) and 5.8S rDNA showed highest similarity whencompared with that of A. tubingensis and A. phoenicis NRRL365T. However, based on morphological and chemotaxonomiccharacteristics, this strain was different from A. tubingensisand A. phoenicis NRRL 365T. On the basis of the datapresented, it is proposed that strain NR 15-1T should be placedin the genus Aspergillus as a new species, Aspergilluscoreanus sp. nov. Therefore, the type strain of the new speciesis strain NR 15-1T (=KCTC 18075PT, =KCCM 80006T).
