The semi-outdoor cultivation of Spirulina platensiswas attempted using an underground-water-based medium.Occurence of contaminant organisms such as Chlorella sp.and Chlamydomonasobservation and bacteria were not detected from denaturinggradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of PCR-amplified16S rDNA during the cultivation, owing to pH control and thehigh quality of the underground water. The mean productivitywas high at 10.5 g/m2/d with a range of 4.2-12.3 g/m2/ddespite the unfavorable weather conditions of the rainyseason. The cultivated S. platensis included a normal proteinimproved the biomass productivity and the biomas qualitybecause of an abundant suplementation of natural mineralsand through a contaminant-fre culture.
