Consumers’ cooperative societies have made an effort continuously to develop environmentally friendly agriculture and to supply environmentally friendly agricultural products during past twenty years. In consequence, consumers’ cooperative societies have got good results of membership and turnover in their own way.As consumers’ interest in food and health have been growing gradually, environmentally friendly agricultural products have been coming into wide use and increasing in amount rapidly since 2000. In addition environmentally friendly agricultural products is in excessive supply with participating in environmentally friendly agriculture by many more farmers and increasing imported organic foods rapidly by large food processors and distributors recently. In these changes of the social situation, the outlook of consumers’ cooperative movement is not bright in some cases. I am of the opinion that consumers’ cooperative movement may come to a crisis in future.So this study is to examine recent tendancy and problems of consumers’ cooperative movement. And then, to find development strategies in order to activate and extend consumers’ cooperative movement.
