A land bank has recently been introduced to deal with high land ompensation costs and industrial complexes costs driven by relatively high land prices, compared to other advanced countries. The purpose of this article is to analyze the long-standing land banking experiences in Sweden and France to draw implications for the Korean land bank. Sweden has provided ffordable housing through land banking since early 20th century and France has adopted various zones and preemption system to implement urban evelopment projects. Implications are that the size of land purchasing should be large enough for successful land banking, that the role of financial support from central government is critical, and that land banking should be operated in accordance with national territorial policies.
