Joyce returns home finishing his ulysses of writing in the last episode of Ulysses. He conducts a long journey of experiments in which he parodies all kinds of conventions of narrative. Admitting prestige neither of the author nor of the narrator, Joyce claims there is no absolute consciousness that articulates the narrative. Many critics depreciate his return to a single credible narrator, Molly. Molly is an artist weaving and unweaving the text in this episode. Her narrative is not coherent and even contradictory with squinting voices. It contravenes rules of structure, punctuation, and logic: conventions of the language to subvert the law of father. It has characteristics like repetition, cycle, rhythm which stem from a woman’s biological experience. Ulysses could be taken as an example of feminine writing which gives us jouissance as a semiotic text. Besides Kristeva, feminsts like Cixious, and Irigaray have considered Ulysses as a revolutionist text in that it gives a woman a voice which undermines the symbolic system. Cixious says it is impossible to define a feminine practice of writing but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Feminine writing surpasses the discourses that regulate the phallocentric system. The Economy of a woman’s drive is prodigious and will produce radical effects of political and social change. Molly fits to Cixious’ model of “writing yourself”. A woman’s language Irigaray says, seems to be contradictory, somewhat mad from the standpoint of reason, for a woman’s desire involves a different economy that upsets the linearity of a project, undermines the goal-object. I think Joyce discovered the possibility of subversion in a woman’s voice.
