The purpose of the study is to reveal educational implications through interpreting shu-er-bu-zuo(述而不作) and wen-gu-zhi-xin(溫故知新), on the basis of tension and harmony between objectvity and subjectivity. There has been the opinion that shu-er-bu-zuo and wen-gu-zhi-xin represents opposite ideas from the standpoint of passivity and activity to the attitude of the Old(故).
But shu-er-bu-zuo and wen-gu-zhi-xin is not merely methodological approach to the Old. It is the process that create renewed meaning from the Old. Therefore, they should be reinterpreted as an important way to realization of Saramdaum, expressed in the Analects of Confucius. At the end of analyzing the relationship between shu-er-bu-zuo and wen-gu-zhi-xin, we concluded that there were critical alternatives to overcome the limitation of our educational system based on conveying knowledge.
