The present study evaluates the mediating effect of self-disclosure and self-concealment on the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and professional help-seeking behavior and the differences of this effect between genders. For this study, 433 male and female third year middle school students in the Changwon area participated. The results indicated that there was a gender difference in the mediating effect of self-disclosure. In terms of the mediating effect of self-concealment, self-defensive ambivalence showed negative direct correlation with help-seeking behavior or indirect negative correlation through self-concealment for both gender. And male student showed the relationship-focused ambivalence and help-seeking behavior either directly or indirectly, while female students showed indirect negative correlation between relationship-involved ambivalence and help-seeking behavior only through self- concealment.
