Students in Daegu at the state of war system under Japanese imperialism formed a secret organization and developed the anti-Japanese movement. Students’ anti-Japanese movement began with the anticipation or conviction that Japanese imperialism would be defeated and Joseon would become independent. The direct cause, however, was the dissatisfaction with the colonized society that people had to experience in daily life including the ethnic discrimination prevalent in schools and the difficulty of career after graduation. At the beginning of the state of war system, students acted mostly to train their own skills with the recognition that they should prepare for the coming independence by rallying comrades, enlightening the public and training themselves, rather than a full-scale struggle. Students prepared an armed uprising at the same time training themselves as the World War spreaded intensely and the Pacific War broke out. Such action was ignited from the recognition that the prolonged Pacific War and World War might deteriorate the national power of Japan leading to failure in war and Joseon’s independence. Students proceeded with basic military drill and research military science. They also formulated a plan to join the powers of independent movement abroad, in case the domestic independent movement was not successful, to develop the independent movement. The recognition of situations and reality and the method and strategy of independent movement of students in Daegu were identified with the student movement nationwide. Students’ anti-Japanese movement was detected at the early stage of activity and frustrated before being able to unfold any direct anti-Japanese movement. The working factors include the watch and control of Japanese imperialism, and an interior factor of students movement such as immature level of political thought.
