There are roads where people are living. From the beginning of the mankind, the roads have been the pathway loaded with all the dreams of mankind and have become political, economical and cultural places. England wanted the wealth of the continent over the oceans, and the traders left along the roads in pursuit of that desire wherever there were profits to make and among them, there were the merchant adventurers. Through the wool and woolen manufacturing industries, the core industries of the economy of England, the merchant adventurers did not cease their efforts to expand the roads during centuries from 13th century to 17th century. To maintain the trade monopoly, they held out against the merchants of the Staples and to secure the commercial supremacy in the Flandre, the Baltic sea, and Germany, fought against the Hansa league. Matching the step with the fluctuating international situation and with the interest of the royal family of England, the merchant adventurers struggled to secure the commercial supremacy and developed the wool-based industrial system of England to the woolen manufacturing country. They were ready to dangerous adventure of finding new commercial route after The Discoveries. Started from the Fraternity in the beginning, they expanded their way to coast of European continent repeating transformations into a company of merchant adventurer, into a charted company and into a joint stock company to solve the recession of the domestic and the foreign market. The merits and demerits on the merchant adventurers, who were in charge of one axis of the economic growth and national economy of England, are divided into two; one is to recognize their contribution to the national economy of England and the other is pointing out the aspect of their abuses through the trade monopoly. However, it is commonly accepted truth that the England’s economic development and the command of the sea played a major part in the background that England became main power in Europe during 16th century. And in the courses of England’s progress, there were the merchant adventurers.
