This paper is an article about Korean American Yim Chungkoo, who had lived as a religionist and nationalist, 1905-1939. To write this, I made use of Shinhanminbo, student's records of Yim Chungkoo, annual reports of Methodist Church, South, and etc. Yim Chungkoo was born as a son of poor merchant in Pyungan-do Gangseo-gun, 1886. He became a Christian under the guidance of Arthur Noble about 1900. He went to America to study in 1905. He entered Pomona College in 1911, and transferred to U. C. Berkeley in 1914. In 1917, he graduated the department of economics of U. C. Berkeley. Also he majored in theology. After studying theology for one semester in San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1918, he entered Pacific School of Religion as connection course of BA and MA in 1927. He got a Master’s degree of literature in 1929 and a Bachelor's degree of theology in 1930. He attended the San Francisco Methodist Church from 1914 under the guidance of Hwang Sayong, Hwang Saseon, and Cho Seonghak. He became a local preacher in 1915. After that, his status ascended to circuit preacher in 1917, Deacon in 1919, and Pastor and Port Missionary in 1921. He had worked as a minister in Oakland, Manteca, Stockton from 1915 to 1926. From 1927 to 1939, he worked in Oakland and Sacramento. During this time, he increased believers. He shared pleasure and sorrow with them, and worked to keep their rights and interests. He didn’t forget Korean liberation from Japanese rule. He worked on positive lines as a member of Gongliphyuphoe and Daehaninkookminhoe. Being active as a president, vice-president, member of executive committee, officer in charge of various department, representative of the assembly, he made an effort to establish the branch of the Gongliphyuphoe and Daehaninkookminhoe. He collected war funds and supported provisional government, fostered younger generation. In 1930s, he made an effort to build the anti-Japanese line of Korean and Chinese in America. By 1939 when he died, Yim Chungkoo had not pursued comfortable life, on the contrary to this he had walked across a thorny path for Korean and Korean liberation.
