The bronze cauldron featuring an avoid shape supported by a funnel-shaped base, and handles on both sides is one of the cooking vessels representing the nomadic life of the tribes who occupied the Eurasian Steppe, depending for their subsistence upon the nomadic economy. This study focuses on the historic significance of the production and distribution of the bronze vessels based on comprehensive understanding of the changes made regarding the vessels discovered at the Xiongnu sites. Archaeologists have discovered bronze vessels in diverse types around the Eurasian Steppe, and revealed that the vessels of different types existed at the same places during the same time periods. They also discovered bronze vessels of a new type which existed at the Xiongnu sites on the Mongolian grasslands around the beginning of the Common Era. These vessels without base co-existed with the vessels of traditional type marked by tall base. The tall-based vessels of the traditional type had similarities with those without base in terms of manufacturing techniques, designs, handle shapes, and the context of excavation. These vessels of the two different types were made under the influence of the same culture and during the same time period, creating new models for all the Xiongnu-style Bronze Cauldrons made in East Asia and spread to the rest of the Eurasian Steppe. What is noteworthy is that the most representative Xiongnu-style cauldrons have been discovered in the Chinese northeastern provinces where no such relics had been made. The discoveries helped set up a foundation for better understanding of the spread of nomadic culture outside the area along with the bits that began to appear in the area.
