In the academic area, the representative indication of Post-Soviet Russia is first revealed in the dismantlement of the existing composition between humanities and social science that had long been solidified at the Russian universities. Particularly, culturology(cultural studies) that had remained at the outskirts of the humanities discourses of the past is becoming so-called 21st century's integrated studies that go beyond humanities and cross and intersect the inter-studies boundary upon being regarded as a new area of studies since the mid 1990s. Such appearance of culturology is being considered as one of the most 'problematic' issues in the Russian academic field during the Post-Soviet era because of its speed of advancement, remarkable quantitative scale expansion and the controversy surrounding the identity of study. This study examines the actual condition and present circumstance of culturology centering on the background of appearance, advancement process and relation between culturology and literature. This is to examine how culturology that is 'being created' in modern Russia is responding to new social demands and establishing the self identity of the study based on its own tradition and heritage. The institutionalization process of the Russian culturology that occurred at the unprecedented speed in the last decade well shows the present condition faced by university education as well as issues and the Russian characteristics in the reconstruction of modern Russian studies. This process is the evidence that reveals the vagueness of identity of culturology as academic studies in spite of having become a department course within universities. Meanwhile, this process reminds of the national-level 'intentional' plan based on a certain agreement by the entire society on the tradition of 'literature-centrism' and 'Culture' contrary to the case in the West.
