The toponyms are generally consisted of two parts both in native Korean words and Sino-Korean words. The front part represents the characteristic of geographic feature and the rear part represents the attribute of geographic feature. The Sino-korean word ‘遷’ corresponds to the native Korean word ‘벼’ as the rear part in the toponyms. The original meaning of ‘遷’ was ‘登也', that is, 'to climb'. However, the meaning of ‘遷’ has been extended to signify ‘去下之高也’, '徙也', '移物', '變易也', '徙國', '徙官', '左遷', '謫也','放逐也', and '姓'. Though it was commonly translated as 'to transfer', ‘遷’ has been utilized in Korea for those various meanings. However, ‘遷’ was utilized in translating the native Korean toponym word ‘*벼라’ and its variants('벼로', '벼루', '비루', '비리') into the Sino-Korean toponym word. It is due to the relevance of the original meaning of ‘遷’ to the meaning of ‘*벼라’ which is 'the stony road on the precipitous hill along the river'. The Sino-korean word such as '道', '途', '逵', '迒', and '逕' which means 'road' has the radical 辵(辶). And the original meaning of ‘遷’, that is, 'to climb' can be utilized to signify 'to climb up to the hill'.
