This paper questions the status of conventional implicature in the Gricean theory. In order to scrutinize this generally underargued notion, I take advantage of such sieves as cancelability and detachability, which are the mainstay of differentiating conventional implicature from the other notions like what is said or what is conversationally implicated. Conventional implicatures are said to be non-cancelable and detachable. By looking into such data that have typically been deemed to have conventional implicature as even, but, still and cleft construction, I conclude that the concept of conventional implicature invites reconsideration since it is not well founded.
