This article gives the information about origin and development of genealogical community of Altaic languages as well as the information about Altaicists and their works. The genealogical community of Altaic languages has been recognized after the rehabilitation of comparative historic linguistics in USSR. The broader researches in the area of Altaic studies were started. The bases of comparative historic grammar of Altaic languages were established in the 20th century. The contribution of foreign Altaicists was great. Apogee of Altaic studies in USSR was in the second half of the 20th century. Researching the living Tungusic-Manchurian languages in Russia give the interesting data that are not involved in comparative research. For example, the combinations of up to 18 aspectual suffixes in the one verbal stem in Even language. In order to fulfil comparative lexical and etymological researches, one may use the non-involved word stock of separate languages, especially the specific layers of vocabulary like totem words, place-names because there are enough materials collected and published from vocabulary of these languages. Determining the words previously non-involved into science circulation is one of objectives in this area. A weak point of Russia’s Altaicists was the fact that they involved the data of Korean and Japanese languages in a smaller degree.
