The purpose of the study is to improve the quality and the application of cosmetics by increasing the dispersion of inorganic pigment through the analysis of chemical properties and characteristic of the ingredients that are used in the O/W type makeup-base. To achieve this object, documents on the ingredients of makeup-base were studied. The ingredients of surfactant, thickening agents and oil materials, which are the ingredients presumed to have an effect on pigment dispersion and are used most frequently in the formulation of common cosmetic products, were extracted and used to personally created new types of make up-bases. The pigment dispersion capacity of these products was then evaluated based on the photographs taken by an optical microscope. The results showed that lecithin, a natural surfactant among nonionic surfactant, proved to have the best dispersion ability among the dispersers. 5% Kunipia-G and 5% Veegum-HV, inorganic thickening agents that control the viscosity of the products, also showed superior dispersion capacity. In the case of oil components D.P.P.G. and G.T.C.C., which are types ester oils, proved excellent in pigment dispersion. The result of newly created make up-bases with the reconstructed formula that employs ingredients with superior pigment dispersion capability based on the experiment, showed drastically improved quality and application in the cosmetics. In conclusion, through experiments that reveal the properties of diverse ingredients, the quality and application of cosmetic products can be improved.
