This article is about how certain change of film regulations, the rules of motion picture censorship of 1926, influenced Chosun film industry. The regulation imposed a heavy tax for film promoters. It drove them into a corner because the film industry had already been depressed. Thus, they held three demonstrations against the new tax system, meanwhile they also began to take measures to overcome the recession and attract audiences. The film industry of Chosun had considerable changes. First of all, movie theaters competitively lowered the ticket prices, and for this price cutting race many of them went out of business. There was also a lot of competition to show new movies. As a result, the industry began to revolve around distribution than screening. And corporations with big capital entered into the movie industry. Meanwhile, representative of Korean movie theaters, Dansungsa began to support small movie productions of Korean companies to secure the new movies for attracting Korean audiences who preferred Korean movies. However, many Korean movies influenced by socialism got mutilated by the censors. The huge change of Chosun film industry in late 1920s was a result of film professionals’ efforts to adapt to the new regulations and system.
