This study is an intention to analyze a message which passes through the center of the movie <A sex doll> through applying an ‘Uncanny’ conception of Sigmund Freud to the movie. Uncanny of Freud is concerned with sentiment that had been originally familiar but had turned to unfamiliar thing by restraint and finally has been brought to life by accident. When restrainted thing comes to oneself accidently, the principal body is wrapped up in an ambiguous sense of unease. Freud considers that uncanny results from that consequence. Moreover, he deems that uncanny commonly occurs when a boundary between an illusion and actuality is vanished or when something which has been regarded as a daydream comes out or when a symbol appears with all meaning and functions of a represented thing. Based on this discussion, I applied the uncanny conception to the movie <A sex doll> limitating it as ‘a thing that familiar but has never been considered ever’, ‘a thing which has been seen but has never been watched intently’, therefore ‘things deemed to be existed but not has been regarded’. Through close analyzing the text, it is defined that the doll named ‘Nosomi’, a flaneur, who struts down a gray street or a zombie is uncanny existence itself. People who are around her and are seen by her all forfeit or lack something. They are isolated from their family, native place, the earth, and the world. It is being turned familiar since they are figures of a great number of numerous individuals who are living in today’s Metropolis. However, when they are pass through the eyes of a flaneur doll and are presented in front of the audience, the audience are wrapped up in uncanny feelings. Moreover, desire that the doll wants to be regarded and be blessed as a real person by people is more uncanny because it’s too manlike. Besides, the main characters in the movie show their hurt that are oppressed in the relation with Nosomi or show their true heart. And they are finally wrapped in uncanny feelings. Consequently, this research studied that the elementary schoolgirl, ‘Moe’, shows too uncommon behavior as a child that gives the audience uncanny feelings.
