The aim of this paper is to recognise their implementation, and acknowledge how they lead to discrimination for women within the criminal justice system. Firstly, in the sectionⅡ is introduced some of the theoretical debates that attempt to explain female deviance, and furthermore how they may have been the basis for some of the stereotypes of women now operating within our society. Next, sectionⅢ followed by looking at the first contact female offenders have with the criminal justice system, namely the British police. It examined how the British police deal with female suspects, looking at the aspects of both chivalry and paternalism. The section then moved on to issues of social control which influence police behaviour leading them to stereotype, and make prejudiced assumptions about female offenders. The conclusion was focused on how aspects of social control have been implemented in various ways throughout the criminal justice system, and how these have affected female offenders. Sustaining the argument of negative discrimination, in relation to women within the criminal justice system, it questions whether this will change in the future
