Inheriting the spirit of the Late Tang and Five Dynasties, and reflecting the peaceful conditions of the era, using the style of Qing Li, Two Yan Ci created many works. Especially, these trends are comparable to the works of Yan Shu, who reverenced the Feng Yansi of the Southern Tang era. Meanwhile, Yan Jidao, who was skilled in creating works of the Xiaoling style, concentrated on disposition, making his works close to the Fenliuroumei which has origins from Li Houzhu of the Southern Tang era, while he showed similarity to this father Yan Shu. Simultaneously, he also expressed sorrow, which overall made his works feel connotative and humane. Like this, they had different styles and aesthetic consciousness on expression, but on the other hand, since they were both “poets of the Wan yue-faction”, they also had some aspects in common. Moreover, Two Yan mostly used the form of Xiaoling, and the contents were practically similar; yearning, and parting between men and women, lament on the past youth, and the frailty of human life. To look over their methods on expressions, they both used methods such as beauty of Hanxu(connotation), Tianya(elegance), Menglong(Indistinct) and Shenqi(mystic), showing various aesthetic trends. Also, we can see through the fact that they used these methods to foward the ample contents and figures of everyday life to an artistic level, recreating the literary value of the work.
