The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of vocabulary knowledge and reading strategies in reading comprehension, in the interest of providing teachers and learners with more effective ways to improve English reading ability. The subjects were twenty-five university students in Seoul, and they were divided into two levels based on reading comprehension test. Statistic analysis methods with descriptive statistics, T-test, and Pearson correlation analysis were deployed. A questionnaire was conducted at the end of the study to determine the degree of reading strategy use, and to investigate the significant differentiation between two levels. Moreover, scores of a reading test and vocabulary test were analyzed to find the correlation among reading comprehension, vocabulary knowledge and reading strategies. The findings indicated that there is a significant correlation between reading comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. The results, however, did not show any differentiation between different reading levels of reading strategies use. Based on the findings, educational implications for this experimental study and future research were suggested.
