In the turning point of modern times, Sino-centrism encountered a major change and crisis. But, such event didn't happen unexpectedly. In the course of gradual change in the19th century, the matters and frames of Sino-centrism had been changing. In the turning point of modern times, the crisis of Sino-centrism emerged as a form of breaking away from Chi’ng Dynasty. There were two meanings connoted in this sense. At first, it was to criticize Chi’ng Dynasty in that they tried to find the original form of Sino-centrism in Japan from the aspect of modernization faction. Secondly, it was to emphasize Joseon’s Sino-centrism with an anti-Chi’ng attitude from the conservative aspect. Breaking away from Chi’ng, and anti-Chi’ng were satisfactory to both modernization faction, and the faction of defending orthodoxy and rejecting heterodoxy. From this aspect, both modernization faction and the faction of defending orthodoxy and rejecting heterodoxy started to newly recognize independence of the Joseon dynasty. What meant by describing history independent from China by describing its own consistent history from ancient history to contemporary history in the turning point of modern times became acrucial prerequisite to establishment of subject and formation of independent state. The purpose of this article is to describe the history of Joseon Dynasty and find out characteristics in the historic depiction at the time. The historic depiction related to the Joseon Dynasty boiled down to significant decrease of depiction of submissive to China. In the turning point of modern times, strictly speaking, it was the era of Joseon Dynasty, when principal criticism to contemporary political situations wasrestrictive. Most of historic depictions were related to virtuous or gracious reign of the king instead of harsh criticism. In addition, there were many lists of chronological events of the kings rather to pic-based depiction. That can be referred to as extension of chronological description. This kind of trend shows limits that contemporary Joseon Dynasty history has. In particular, it is deemed as one of the important limits to overlook the danger of Japanese invasion while focusing too much upon breaking away from China.
