Purpose: In our study, we evaluated the stability and clinical effect of bone graft material coated with recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (rhBMP-2). Materials and Methods: 25 patients (male:12, female:13) were selected who had the premolar or molar which should be extracted due to vertical alveolar bone destruction, but remaining alveolar bone height was greater than 50%. After tooth extraction, the control group was grafted with β-TCP and experimental group was grafted with β-TCP with rhBMP-2. The healing condition of each group was evaluated and compared with CT imaging. After 3 month of operation, we evaluated amount of bone resorption with vertical height and width. Results: In control group, the change in alveolar bone height was -1.087±1.413mm and the experimental group was -0.059±0.960mm. In the change of alveolar bone width, control group was 0.006±1.149mm in 25% ESL(Extraction Socket Level). And in 50% ESL, control group was 0.542±1.157mm and experimental group was 1.239±1.249mm. And in 75% ESL, control group was 1.405±1.753mm and experimental group was 1.864±2.310mm. In comparison of bone width between pre and post operation in each group, there was statistical significant difference only in control group, which means the experimental group has effect of bone preservation. Conclusion: In our analysis, β-TCP coated with rhBMP-2 is appeared more effective in socket preservation than β-TCP (P <0.05).
