In this paper, we forecast the demand for subscribing to the new third generation (3G) mobile network systems or IMT-2000 systems in Korea. IMT-2000 systems are expected to be the key infrastructure for the future telecommunications services in Korea, and will compete not only with the existing mobile systems but also with some fixed broadband networks. We specify a model for the future subscription demand and develop an estimation strategy for using survey data on intents to subscribing to IMT-2000. It is found that the future IMT- 2000 subscription rate would be higher among men and among the existent second generation (2G) mobile telephone users. It is also shown that the demand is negatively related to the initial subscription cost and the price of using mobile data services. However, the effect of income is not shown statistically significant.
