In this paper, I contribute to the ongoing discussions on the different distributions of bare nouns across languages by means of Portuguese. In my previous works, I tried to explain the distributional contrast between DP and NP focusing on the property of articles and determiners coupled with the Aspect and the Predicate Theory. However, a closer look inside noun itself open us a different way to handle the puzzling distribution of nouns. I argue here, contrary to the traditional view, that lexical level nouns do not denote an entity itself but a set of properties belong to the referent. This idea gives a breakthrough to develope the hypothesis that the most economic way of projecting nouns in the syntax be probably bare noun form instead of accompanying articles or determiners. This paper presents empirical evidence to support this hypothesis. However, the possibility of bare noun at the surface structure is highly depends on the language specific parameters. I adopted, in this paper, Chierchia(1998)'s Nominal Mapping Principle to explain the different realization of nouns in the argument position across languages.
