Contemporary artwork as the product of superstructural activity (activities related to spiritual labor including art) must be considered as an independent existence with its own ontological validity. Sometimes, new forms of artwork (superstructure) do not have familiar ontological aspects that we can imagine based on a hermeneutic sense. That is, multimedia artworks employing machine technology require of us in order to understand their aesthetic quality. Only when we modify our approach, is multimedia revealed as an important part of late twentieth century culture. Advanced technology has created a new paradigm for art. Late capitalism has socially based an influx of multimedia art under the highly industrialized system of the contemporary culture and society. By this interrelated function between art and capitalism, contemporary technology influences people's everyday lives. Indeed, the new technological elements in art play a critical role in endowing younger artists with a new spiritual orientation. Multimedia artists peremptorily use technological media and visually transfer those technological elements into their artworks. Through this constructive use of technology, multimedia artists, hermeneutically investigating ontogenical conditions of new forms, can create a new paradigm for the arts of our time. Therefore, scrutinizing the role of multimedia art in late capitalist culture may lead us to discover the issues that will define twenty-first century art and culture. Thus, this study tries to find the changes of multimedia art concept by researching the early video works of Nam June Pack and Bruce Nauman.
