Medical tourism is growing as a new high value-added growth service industry in Korea. As such, there is a need to determine the level of preparedness of potential medical tourismpersonnel to meet the opportunities presented by this new sector. This study analyzed theresponses of male and female medical tourism university students in the Daejeon andChungnam regions of South Korea. Findings showed that for Korean medical tourism to takeoff, university support is needed in terms of training of experts in the field by requiringcompulsory courses about medical tourism for students pursuing degrees in tourism and anyof the health sciences. To complement efforts in university education, national support isnecessary to increase training opportunities for university students in terms of establishingtraining venues and linkages for collaboration with organizations and firms engaged in themedical tourism industry so that these students can have hands-on experience and practicetheir skills. Moreover, the Korean government should create an environment whichemphasizes language quality education, to train professionals in the medical tourism industrywho will later be interacting with foreign tourists. Also, it is in desperate need of efforts thathave been integrated to construction personnel educational environment that is customized to exploring and systematic curriculum with a variety of public relations strategies to encouragethe participation of university students.
